🎨The art room at North Buncombe Elementary School recently transformed into a glowing underwater world, thanks to the creativity of third graders and their teacher, Mary Ann Athens.

Inspired by the vibrant colors of the ocean, students created their own “Day-Glo” sea life scenes using neon oil pastels and shimmering watercolor paints. Day-Glo refers to bright, fluorescent colors that appear to glow under normal light and shine more vividly under ultraviolet light. When placed under black light, their fish, coral, and ocean waves came to life in a dazzling display of color and movement.
From swirling jellyfish to schools of bright tropical fish, each piece reflected the students’ imagination and growing artistic skills. The classroom’s glowing transformation brought an exciting twist to art class - showing that creativity can shine, even under a blacklight.
