Language Arts - 7th Grade

7th grade English Language Arts uses a variety of diverse fiction, nonfiction, and poetry to teach the common core standards.  Our classes include self-selected independent reading time, vocabulary instruction, grammar instruction, and teacher-directed reading and writing instruction.

We provide students opportunities to work independently and in groups, and we work to have students read, write, think, speak, and move in every class period.  We study a range of classic and modern authors and texts, including A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, and works by Langston Hughes, Roald Dahl, Ray Bradbury, Maya Angelou, and Edgar Allan Poe.
We assign homework once every two weeks.  Homework is assigned on Monday, and it is due on Friday.  Homework consists of a nonfiction article with discussion questions.  We also ask that students read at least 20 minutes per night in a novel of their choice.
