Welcome to Chorus!

Ms. Lindsey Costner
Clyde A. Erwin Middle School Chorus

CAEMS's 7th and 8th Grade Chorus classes (Vocal Music) is a performing arts class emphasizing individual and ensemble musicianship, and an expectation of character, responsibility, and integrity in and out of the classroom. All classes participate in performances held in the Fall, Winter, and Spring semesters, with many extracurricular opportunities offered for growth, such as NC Honors Choir in the Fall, NC All-State Chorus, Buncombe County All-County Chorus, and Music Performance Adjudication all held in the Spring. In an ever-changing, fast-paced world, it is the ultimate goal to provide students with an opportunity to experience and create beauty, to broaden their appreciation and understanding of language, culture, and art, and to become appreciative, thoughtful consumers and/ or creators within the fine arts throughout the course of their lives!
Topics covered include but are not limited to vocal production and health, individual and group vocal technique and performance etiquette, music history and traditions, and learning the language of music through notation, dictation, composition, and improvisation.  We will cover a wide variety of both secular and sacred selections, including contemporary works, Traditional folk songs, sacred music and spirituals, Pop, Broadway, and musical theatre, as well as selections that reflect various cultures and time periods, with the aim that students will gain a primary understanding of the world abroad.
